 Balinese Batik

This cotton fabric comes from the island of Bali, in Indonesia.

The background crackle designs are made with wax resist and then the black designs are over printed with wooden blocks.

These pieces are sarong lengths with a border along the bottom edge. The width is 40 inches and the length 2 metres. The fabric is machine washable.

 

 

Balinese Gold Prada cloth

This cloth is made in Java, and sold mainly to Bali where it is worn for temple ceremonies and other special occasions. It is known as "prada" in Indonesia.

The cloth is first screen printed with a typical floral batik design, and the gold is then applied by hand with a wooden printing block.

These pieces are sarong lengths so the maximum length per piece is 2 metres. The width is 40 inches and the fabric is hand or machine washable on a gentle cycle.
